Today we leave Punta Islita Resort and head to The Mangrove Hotel about 3 hours away. Our first destination has been a rural resort with lots of activities -
Zip lining
Horseback riding
Monkey hike
Bird watching
Everyone at Punta Islita has been so friendly and helpful, especially Briner, the pool bartender, and Diego, the waiter who learned how to make iced mochas for me.
We met vacationers from Toronto, Boston, Chicago, Phoenix, Connecticut and New York. It would seem most people who come here are escaping the cold at home.
A couple of learnings: Costa Rica is way ahead of us environmentally, so if you are accustomed to (and dependent on) drinking from straws, you’re going to want to bring your own reusable one. Because if you ask for a straw, they look at you like you asked for a feather from the endangered scarlet macaw. Also, you can travel all the way to Central America and I still guarantee you that the woman wearing all her big diamonds in the pool is going to be from Dallas.
Our next stop is a smaller, boutique hotel right on the beach. The boys have plans to go deep sea fishing - keep your fingers crossed that Chip finally gets his marlin.
