Power Tracks

(ahem)

I have an announcement to make:

I can now squat down and stand back up without touching anything or using my arms. You maybe can't see my muscles...but they are there and they're getting strong!

ICYMI: You can read about my strength-training journey here.

So I thought I would share my playlist, "Pumping Iron: Workout 2024." (In no particular order...I listen on shuffle.)

Stronger - Kelly Clarkson

Rebel Girl - Bikini Kill

Dani California - Chili Peppers

Black bandana, sweet Louisiana, robbing on a bank in the state of Indiana

Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters

American Idiot - Green Day

Brave - Sarah Bareilles

It's My Life - No Doubt

This song has the swingiest bass line I've ever heard. Was the bassist the guy in the band that Gwen dated? Because if I was singing onstage and someone came up behind me with that bass line, I'd be all, MARRY ME. Turn it up.

crushcrushcrush - Paramore

Days are Forgotten - Kasabian

Times Like These - Foos

Juice - Lizzo

Immigrant Song - Trent Reznor & Karen O

Not Your Fault - Awolnation

Honeybee - Tom Petty

I like remembering when Dave Grohl played this with them on SNL after Cobain died.

Fighter - Christina Aguilera

Somebody Told Me - The Killers

Got a good beat you can dance to. I give it an 85.

Bad Reputation - Joan Jett

Jesus of Suburbia - Green Day

I once had a New Year's Resolution to learn all the words to this iconic rock opera number.

Monkey Wrench - Foos

Demons - Imagine Dragons

When you feel my heat, look into my eyes...it's where my demons hide

Fight Song - Rachel Platten

Viva La Vida - Coldplay

Uprising - Muse

This song makes me think of the election. I know it's about rising up against the machines or whatever, but it works against the old white men trying to control our lives, too. They will not control us...We will be victorious. (And we will not go back.)

Bitch - Meredith Brooks

Good As Hell - Lizzo

Mr. Brightside - The Killers

Heads Will Roll - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I Want to Break Free - Queen

Simply The Best - Tina Turner

Stronger - Kanye

It's A Sin - Pet Shop Boys

If you like 80s music and big explosive show tunes, this is the song for you.

So What - P!nk

Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson

Longview - Green Day

Run the World (Girls) - Beyonce

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

Rudie Can't Fail - The Clash

This song sounds like a bunch of blokes in a pub scream-singing their football club's fight song. It's practically "He's here...he's there...he's every-f**king-where..."

Cold Hard Bitch - Jet

I used to talk music & books with my long-time hairdresser in Memphis, Grant (RIP). He once told me if I liked the song "Look What You've Done" that I should check out Jet's other song. LOL. That man...

DOA - Foos

I'm Not Okay - My Chemical Romance

I suspect that, had I been born 10 years later, I would've been a total emo girl.

London Calling - The Clash

Don't Stop Me Now - Queen

Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty

I dare you to listen to this without playing air guitar. Can't be done.

Born This Way - Lady Gaga

Wherein Gaga cements her place in gay clubs and Pride parades for eternity.

Stone in Love - Journey

Girl On Fire - Alicia Keys

Titanium - David Guetta

Synchronicity - The Police

Synchronicity II - The Police

Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
